How to use this attendance calculator

An attendance percentage calculator shows what share of classes, lectures or working days you were present for. Enter the total days held and the days you were present (or absent) and the required percentage, such as 75%. It tells you your attendance percentage, how many days in a row you need to attend to reach the requirement, or how many more days you can miss and still stay above it.

How to calculate attendance percentage

Divide the number of days (or classes) you were present by the total number held, then multiply by 100. If 40 classes were held and you attended 28, your attendance is 28 ÷ 40 × 100 = 70%. If you know your absences instead, first subtract them from the total to get the days present.

How many classes do I need to attend to reach 75%?

If you are below the requirement, every class you attend raises your percentage. With 28 out of 40 (70%), you need x more classes in a row so that (28 + x) ÷ (40 + x) ≥ 0.75. That gives x = 8: 36 out of 48 is exactly 75%. The calculator solves this for any target.

How many classes can I miss and keep 75%?

If you are above the requirement, you can find how many future absences keep you at or above it. With 36 out of 40 (90%), you can miss 8 more classes: 36 out of 48 is still 75%. Missing one more would take you below. Requirements and rounding rules vary by school, university and employer, so check your institution’s policy.

Attendance formulas, explained

Attendance percentage

Attendance % = days present ÷ total days × 100

Days present = total − absent.

Classes needed to reach a target

x = ⌈(target × total − present) ÷ (1 − target)⌉

Target as a decimal, e.g. 0.75. Assumes you attend every one of the next x classes.

Classes you can miss

y = ⌊present ÷ target − total⌋

The number of future absences that still keeps you at or above the target.

PUT THE FORMULA TO WORK

Worked examples you can try.

Load an example into the calculator, then change one value to explore.

EXAMPLE 01

Below 75%

28 present out of 40 is 70%. Attend the next 8 classes in a row to reach 75% (36 of 48).

EXAMPLE 02

Above 75%

36 present out of 40 is 90%. You can miss 8 more classes and still have 75%.

EXAMPLE 03

Using absent days

120 working days with 25 absences: 95 ÷ 120 = 79.17%. You can miss 6 more days and stay at 75%.

MAKE THE NUMBERS MAKE SENSE

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Dividing by the total days in the term instead of the days actually held so far.
  • Counting half days or late arrivals as full days when your institution counts them differently.
  • Assuming 74.5% is rounded up to 75%. Many institutions do not round.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this for college lectures and work days?

Yes. The calculation is the same for school days, college or university lectures, training sessions and employee working days.

What if I only know my absent days?

Choose “I know my days absent”. The calculator subtracts them from the total to get days present.

How do I calculate my attendance percentage?

Divide the days you were present by the total days held and multiply by 100. For example, 45 present out of 50 days is 45 ÷ 50 × 100 = 90%.

How many days present do I need for 75% attendance?

Multiply the total days held by 0.75 and round up. For 60 days held you need at least 45 present. If you are already below 75%, the calculator shows how many consecutive days you must attend to get back to it.

How many classes can I bunk and still keep 75% attendance?

Use the formula ⌊present ÷ 0.75 − total⌋. With 36 present out of 40, you can miss 8 more classes. The calculator works it out for any target.

How do I calculate attendance percentage from absent days?

Subtract absent days from the total to get days present, then divide by the total and multiply by 100. 2 absences in 30 days is 28 ÷ 30 × 100 = 93.33%.

Is attendance counted by days or by lectures?

It depends on your institution. Schools often count days; colleges and universities often count lectures per subject. Use the same unit for both the total and the present count.

How do I calculate employee attendance percentage?

Use scheduled working days as the total and days actually worked as present. Approved leave may or may not count as present, depending on company policy.

Can I reach 100% attendance after missing a class?

No. Once a class is missed, the percentage can approach 100% but never reach it. The calculator flags targets that cannot be reached.

Methodology & assumptions

Calculations run in your browser using the formulas and assumptions explained on this page. Intermediate values retain full floating-point precision; displayed amounts are rounded. Attendance % = present ÷ total held × 100. Days needed assume you attend every one of the next consecutive days; days you can miss assume no further attendance is recorded in between. Results are not rounded up to the requirement. Rules for half days, medical leave and rounding vary by institution. Sharing an input link places those inputs in the URL.
